Reading List.

I love to read.  Albeit, once upon a time I had more time to devote to this hobby but, I still make it a priority to read at least 1 book a month.  I joined a book club over 5 years ago and besides the fact that I get to eat, drink wine, and talk about books with the awesome group of ladies once a month (shout out to the PWs!), it has been a great way for me to meet my goal of a book a month.  We are 8 months in and I have read 7 of the books.  Sorry, but, I just could not get into 1776 (cringeworthy seeing as how I minored in history).  So far, the club books I have read are:

  1. A Gentleman in Moscow.  This book was long and I did not finish it until last month.  However, it did keep my interest and you cannot help but love the main character.  I kept trucking along because I did want to see how the story ended.  My book club read Rules Of Civility by the same author, Amor Towles, a few years ago and I remember that I did not care for that book at all. So, I was happy that this time around I could get into one of his books.
  2. The Blind Assassin.  Good Lord, this one was a long one as well.  We have a rule in book club that no book we read it supposed to go over 500 pages and this book is 650.  So, this book had a strike against it from the beginning.  There are some plot twists and story lines that keep it interesting and you wanting more.
  3. Single-Minded. This book is based in Sarasota so it was a fun read because I knew the locations mentioned in the book. Lisa Daly, the author, actually came to our book club and discussed the book with us, as well as, her own personal story in becoming an author. Great beach read!
  4. The Good Samaritan. Wow on so many levels. Very disturbing book and I am. Little disturbed with myself for enjoying it so much. A couple of plot twists and unanswered story lines. But, overall I enjoyed this book. It kept my interest and an easy read because I wanted to know how it ended.
  5. The Good Neighbor.  An easy read.  A lot of twists and turns that keep you guessing and turning the page.  If was just okay.
  6. Shadow Land.  I liked this book; however, it could have been about 100 pages shorter.  The author is a great writer and it was very easy for me to get visual pictures from the descriptions in the book.  I found that certain parts dragged on, but, ultimately I enjoyed reading this book.
  7. Little Fires Everywhere. Very easy read.  This was the only pick of mine that made it on to the list for 2018.  The story was relatable and a page turner.  However, at the end of the book there were some story lines that never really developed that I hoped would have by the end.  Great beach read!

Outside of book club, I have read:

  1. The Nest. Meh. Easy to read, but, needed a little more depth.
  2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (I never got through the complete series, so I am starting over). When the book is geared towards children, does an adult really have standing to review the same?
  3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  Same as #2 above.  But, in all seriousness, I am enjoying the books.

I am currently reading:

  1. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
  2. Like She Owns the Place.
  3. You are a Badass.
  4. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck.

Notice a theme with those last three books? I will give you all an update on these books once I finish reading.

On my list of books to read:

  1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
  2. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
  3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
  4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
  5. The Handmaid’s Tale.
  6. Hidden Figures.
  7. Crazy Rich Asians.
  8. The Hamilton Affair (book club book).
  9. The Kitchen House (book club book).
  10. We Have Always Lived in the Castle (book club book).

What’s on your list? I am always looking for book recommendations, especially come the end of the year when I have to present my picks to the ladies of book club!

Hi Marisa! I read You are a Badass and loved it so much I bought and read You are a Badass at Making Money by the same author. Let me know how you like it after reading it. I recently picked up the Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck to read, but haven’t gotten to it yet. LOVE the blog!
